lovely days

Steve made this strawberry in his ceramics class and it adorns our kitchen table, reminding us of how talented he is.  We continue to enjoy another lovely day thanks to the blessings Mother Nature bestows on us, however fleeting they may be.  Now it's time to focus on the upcoming holidays, for my nephew, Robert, has been sending me messages about Thanksgiving dinner, put in his menu request and making sure we have our home decorated, for he enjoys looking at our Christmas trees.  Wayne already plans on decorating the weekend prior to Thanksgiving, so we shall be able to make his wishes come true.

Today I made tacos for the family and Big Daddy's chili which we will deliver tomorrow.  I had a bunch of apples so I decided to make a Nutty Apple Crisp dessert.  I just pulled it out of the oven and the whole house smells good.

Nutty Apple Crisp

6 cups thinly sliced apples
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup steel cut oats
dash of cinnamon
1/2 cup musli mix
1 cup trail mix with nuts
1/2 cup chocolate morsels
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 pinch salt
1 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup orange juice

Preheat oven 350 degrees.  Toss apples with lemon juice and water in a shallow 2 quart baking dish.  In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, sugar, cinnamon and salt.  Mix to blend thoroughly.  Cut in butter until mixture resembles course crumbs.  Mix in trail mix.  Crumble over apples to cover completely.  Drizzle orange juice on top and bake for 40 to 45 minutes until top is lightly browned.  Serve warm or at room temperature.  Enjoy.  xo
